Range & Status

Reasonably widespread in south-east England, but becomes increasingly scarce in the west.

Regional Distribution

Only known in Cornwall from Higginsmoor Wood, Lanhydrock Estate (1993).

Habitat & Ecology

Breeds in thick bark of sickly or freshly dead Beech Fagus sylvatica timber, or else in

heartwood of small twigs. Also in other broad-leaved trees. Characteristically in ancient woodlands and pasture-woodlands.

Threats

Clearance of dead and dying timber.

Conservation

The Lanhydrock Estate is owned by The National Trust.
