Trachyphloeus rectus

Range & Status

Syn T. laticollis Boheman. A northern and western species which appears to have become increasingly scarce in recent years.

Regional Distribution

The Lizard (Keys, 1919 and 1922) and Kynance Cliffs in 1963 and 1970 by M.G. Morris. Found at Coverack Cliffs by K.N.A. Alexander in 1998.

Habitat & Ecology

Larvae root-feeders; adults occur at the base of various plants especially Plantains Plantago spp., Sorrel Rumex spp. or Common Bird' s-foot-trefoil Lotus corniculatus in dry coastal grassland and heath.

Threats

Loss of semi-natural coastal pastures through abandonment of grazing, and also public access causing trampling damage to vegetation.
