Range & Status

Although known in over 100 10 km squares in southern England and East Anglia, this species is restricted by its need for hot dry terrain.

Regional Distribution

Confirmed only from Penhale Dunes, where a persistent population still survives.

Habitat & Ecology

Found on short turf over warm sandy or limey soil of southerly aspect.

Threats

Trampling and summer fires.

The sole colony is mostly on Ministry of Defence land to which there is no public access.
