Range & Status

Widespread in England.

Regional Distribution

Recorded only from Ethy Woods in 1990.

Habitat & Ecology

Under bark on deadwood and in heartrot. The larvae feed on the larvae of other small beetles, including certain scolytid bark beetles; in damp conditions where there is mould or sap.

Threats

Loss of fresh deadwood through clearance of fallen timber. Conversion of native broadleaved woodland to plantation forestry.

Conservation

Protection of native woodlands from damaging developments, and retention of fallen deadwood.
