Myrmedobia
coleoptrata
Range & Status
Widespread in England, but largely southern in distribution.
Regional Distribution
This species is known solely from the Lizard area, with only two reports since 1980: Mullion Cliff in 1989 (Alexander & Grove, 1991) and found at Kynance Cove by Peter Hodge in 1998.
Habitat & Ecology
Its ecology is poorly known. It is a predatory species, feeding on aphids, etc, and occurring on tree trunks, in hedge bases, in ant nests, etc. Most English records are from woodland or well-wooded habitats, but in Cornwall it has only ever been found on rocky seacliffs. Shelter and humidity may be important. The females are flightless.
Threats
Unknown.
Conservation
Mullion Cliff and Kynance Cover are within SSSI.
