Range & Status
Widespread in central and southern Europe, but a southern species in Britain. Very local, although most frequent in south-western counties. Seems to form small and localised colonies.
Regional Distribution
First found in Cornwall in the Hayle and St. Ives district in 1888, and subsequently found at Perranporth, Penhale, Rock, and Gunwalloe. It is now, however, best known from Sennen Cove.
Habitat & Ecology
Dry and well-drained heaths and grasslands with areas of bare sand or small loose stones. Sparse or short vegetation is important. Sites tend to be particularly warm and sheltered, e.g. south-facing cliff slopes, and largely coastal in Britain. It is probably a seed-feeder, especially of Common Stork' s-bill Erodium cicutarium .
Threats
Coastal development, excessive visitor pressure, natural succession.
Conservation
