Lobelia urens

Range & Status

Native; an oceanic Southern-Temperate perennial. It grows in southern Britain; in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Hampshire and Sussex.

Regional Distribution

Very rare in Cornwall, occurring at only one site near Lostwithiel, at Redlake Meadows (SX15), although it was previously known from one other nearby. It has also been introduced to Ventongimps Moor (SW75), where it persists in small numbers.

Habitat & Ecology

In rough damp pasture, acid grassland and rather heathy places.

Threats

Scrub encroachment, however, the Redlake Meadows site is managed for this species and the population is thriving.

Conservation

Redlake Meadows is a Cornwall Wildlife Trust nature reserve.
