Hippolyte longirostris

Range & Status

Amongst algae in pools at ELWS. A very rare species, only known from two British sites: Worthing in 1910 and Looe in 1975. It is possible that, in the past, this species has been confused with a form of Hippolyte varians (Leach) and that its occurrence on the south coast may be more frequent. Elsewhere, southwards to the Mediterranean and Morocco.
