Range & Status

Records suggest that this species was widely distributed throughout England and Wales, and south-west Scotland. It has become very uncommon during the present century.

Regional Distribution

R.T.Bannister beat this species from Grey Willow Salix cinerea and Bramble Rubus fruticosus agg. at Carfury, Madron, in 1973.

Habitat & Ecology

Associated with decaying wood, especially old Ivy Hedera helix ; larvae are found in rotten and firm dead wood in broadleaved woodland, pasture-woodland and hedgerows.

Threats

Removal of deadwood from woods and hedgerows, for tidiness or other reasons.
