Chirona hameri

Range & Status

This colder-water species, previously known as Balanus hameri , is commonest around the northern British coasts and northern North Sea. It has always been rare in Cornish waters, the southern-most limit of its distribution range. It is found sublittorally at 20-200m depth, most often on other biological structures. There is a single, relatively recent (1981) record from the Whitesand Bay area of south-east Cornwall, although Southward (2008) states that it is no longer found alive in the English Channel.
