Astenus serpentinus

Range & Status

Syn. A. subditus (Mulsant & Rey). Only known from two British localities: Whitsand Bay in east Cornwall up to 1907 and more recently in south Devon. Long confused with Astenus procerus .

Regional Distribution

Collected at Whitsand Bay by Donisthorpe in 1907 and about the same period by J.J.

Walker.

Habitat & Ecology

A coastal grassland species, usually on sandy soils, in moss and amongst the grass litter.

Threats

Abandonment of cliff pastures, with consequent coarsening and scrub development.
