Range & Status

Widespread across lowland Britain, but rarer in the far west.

Regional Distribution

Discovered in Landy Wood, Millook Valley and Camerance Wood, Fal Estuary in 1989.

Habitat & Ecology

Breeds in slime fungi under bark on the trunks or fallen boughs of dead trees; adults found in ripe powdery stage; also in bracket fungi.

Threats

Removal of decaying timber. Loss of older generations of trees.

Conservation

Retention of suitable deadwood, and maintenance of age structure of trees to ensure future availability of habitat. Much of the Millook woodlands are now owned by the Woodland Trust, and Camerance Wood is a property of The National Trust.
