Ampedus elongantulus

Range & Status

Widely distributed in central southern and south-eastern England, but very localised and very rare outside of this area.

Regional Distribution

Recorded only at Millook in 1919.

Habitat & Ecology

An old growth speciality, it develops in red-rotten timber of old Oak Quercus spp.; also reported from deadwood of Beech Fagus sylvatica and Pine Pinus spp. The adults nectar at Hawthorn Crataegus monogyna blossom.

Threats

Felling old trees; poor age structures of trees.

Conservation

Much of the Millook Valley is now owned and managed by the Woodland Trust.
