Amara nitida

Range & Status

Restricted to a few sites across England, where it has become increasingly scarce.

Regional Distribution

A single old record from Isles of Scilly (F. Holme, 1845).

Habitat & Ecology

Favours dry sandy situations, such as sand dunes and heaths.

Threats

Agricultural intensification; abandonment of rough grazings, leading to coarsening of the vegetation; development pressure on ' waste' land.

Conservation

Much of the coastal sand dunes and sandy heathland is now protected within SSSI.

Development in the islands is controlled by the Duchy of Cornwall.
