MEETINGS

CISFBR participates in periodic workshops and seminars, and organises a Spring meeting with the AGM and biodiversity discussion meetings in Summer or Autumn. Other activities, including field meetings, can be additionally arranged at the suggestion of members. Past meetings have included habitat based workshops, which were held for marine, freshwater, woodland and sand-dune habitats.

CISFBR 2016 SUMMER MEETING AND AGM

SATURDAY 9th July 2016

10.00am to 4.30pm

PERCEVAL INSTITUTE, ST MINVER AND PENTIRE POINT (SW98)

The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Federation of Biological Recorders (CISFBR) 2016 summer meeting and AGM has been organised for Saturday 9th July, at the Perceval Institute, St Minver for the morning session, and Pentire Point (SW98) for an afternoon recording walk.

This year the morning session will include only one talk - "Recording the rare bees of Kernow" by Paddy Saunders. The talk will focus on a couple of bumblebees but mostly the work Paddy is doing on other specialist solitary bees. Paddy will also be promoting his new book 'Bumblebees of Cornwall and Scilly' (for a free download of the publication see the ERCCIS website http://erccis.org.uk/News/BumblebeeAtlas.)

This will be followed by a short CISFBR AGM, and then after lunch a circular walk recording the wildlife around the National Trust owned and managed Pentire Point, north of Polzeath. Paddy will also be on hand in the field for those interested in recording bees. Someone from the local National Trust Tintagel to Holywell team will also be with us on the walk as they are keen on getting some comments and ideas from recorders about improving the farmed areas of the site for wildlife, including suitable 'bee-friendly' areas. The week before, on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July the National Trust will be holding a Bioblitz at Lundy Bay, just to the east of Pentire Point. It is hoped that the recording walk on the 9th will cover areas not looked at during the Bioblitz.

The outline of the day is below -

Morning session - meet at the Perceval Institute, St Minver, SW96617717 (in the centre of the village)

10am - tea/coffee
10.45am - Introduction
11am - Recording the rare bees of Kernow - Paddy Saunders
12pm- CISFBR AGM
12.30pm Lunch - (please bring your own).

Afternoon walk - meet at Lead mines car park, northwest of Pentireglaze - SW94097999 at 1.30pm. The walk should finish by 4.30pm.
