There are nine British species, including the Firebrat Thermobia domestica (Packard) (seemingly with no Cornish records) and the Silverfish Lepisma saccharina Linnaeus (abundant in Cornish houses), both of which are introduced. Of the seven native species, four are so far recorded from Cornwall: two species of Petrobius and two species of Dilta, Dilta littoralis (Womersley) being common on dry heathland and recorded only from Cornwall, Devon, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight (Delaney, 1954).
