Range & Status

A fairly large species (to 20cm) that grows subtidally on sheltered coasts where it is epiphytic on larger algae and epilithic on bedrock and pebbles from extreme low water to about 13m depth. Widespread but uncommon on south and west coasts of Britain and Ireland.
