Range & Status

Found on acidic soils, associated with a variety of tree species - Oak Quercus spp., Silver Birch Betula pendula , Sweet Chestnut Castanea sativa , and Beech Fagus sylvatica . Known from scattered localities in England, Scotland and recently Wales. In Cornwall there are at least four recent, post-1990 sites: on a stream bank with Quercus / Salix in the Loe Valley near Helston (2000), Ethy Woods near Lerryn (1997), Millock Wood south of Bude (1990) and most recently at Red Moor (a Cornwall Wildlife Trust nature reserve) near Bodmin (2007). This fungus is on the UK BAP List of Priority Species as a Group Plan species (Toothed Fungi).
