Parablennius ruber

Habitat & Distribution

This species has recently been revalidated as being a separate species from the Tompot Blenny Parablennius gattorugine and, due to the confusion over identification, has probably been somewhat under-recorded in the British Isles. It is fairly widespread on exposed western coasts of Ireland and Scotland. There is also a record from Northern Ireland. In Cornish waters it has been found on the Manacles Rocks off the Lizard Peninsula and in at least five sites in the Isles of Scilly. Elsewhere it is known south to the Atlantic coasts of Spain and Portugal, the Mediterranean, Madeira and the Canary Islands.
