Orobanche hederae

Range & Status

Native. Submediterranean-Subatlantic species. Mainly a coastal species in western England and Wales but found scattered across Ireland.

Regional Distribution

Scattered around the Cornish coast and often found in built up areas such as Hayle (SW53) and Fowey (SX15). Rarely found inland. Formerly recorded from Tresco (SV81) on the Isles of Scilly.

Habitat & Ecology

Always found growing amongst Ivy Hedera helix subsp. hibernica , most often on walls, cliffs and Cornish Hedges. Also found on sand-dunes.

Threats

The tidying up of Ivy-clad walls, hedges and waste places, and building development.

Conservation

Most sites are unprotected.
