Orobanche alba

Range & Status

Native. European Temperate plant; also in Central Asia. Found in the Pennines, western Scotland, northern and western Irish coasts, and Cornwall.

Regional Distribution

Apart from one other recent site at Kiberick Cove (SW93), it is restricted to The Lizard coast (SW61 and SW71).

Habitat & Ecology

On The Lizard it parasitises Wild Thyme Thymus polytrichus , where that species grows on ultra-basic rocks. It is most common in short-turf coastal grassland within 100 metres of the cliff-top.

Threats

The scrubbing up of coastal maritime grassland.

Conservation

Most of the sites are protected and managed by the National Trust or Natural England.
