Range & Status

Native. European Temperate species. Widespread in southern Britain though rarer in south-western and northern areas, scattered in Wales and Ireland and very rare in Scotland.

Regional Distribution

Restricted to three or four wetland sites on St. Mary' s (SV91) and Tresco (SV81). It may still occur in Gunwalloe Marsh (SW62) on The Lizard, however, the habitat has deteriorated for this particular species.

Habitat & Ecology

It grows in marshy fields and open reed beds.

Threats

Loss of wetland and lack of appropriate management.

Conservation

The Gunwalloe site is managed by the National Trust, primarily for birds. On the Isles of Scilly most sites are either SSSI or managed by the IOS Wildlife Trust.
