Melitta tricincta

Range & Status

In Britain this species is confined to southern England mainly in the south-eastern counties but with a somewhat disjunct population in west Cornwall. A late summer bee, with both sexes nectaring and females collecting pollen from Red Bartsia Odontites verna . This species has only been recorded at two sites in Cornwall, even thought the host plant is quite common here. One very old record from Porthcothan in VC2 and the most recent record is from Loggan' s Moor near Hayle in VC1. The population size at Loggan' s Moor (a Cornwall Wildlife Trust nature reserve) is small and may well be threatened.
