Widespread in England and Wales.
Discovered in Boconnoc Park in 1989 and Lanhydrock Park in 2008.
Habitat & Ecology
Breeds in the relatively soft moist dead heartwood of boughs, trunks and stumps in various broadleaves, especially Ash Fraxinus excelsior and Beech Fagus sylvatica. Mostly associated with ancient woodlands and pasture woodlands, including linear sites such as riverside trees.
Loss of the older age classes of trees and removal of their associated deadwood.
Boconnoc Park has a sympathetic owner and is a SSSI. Lanhydrock Park is owned by The National Trust.
