Range & Status
Native. European Boreo-temperate plant; also in eastern Asia and North America. Scattered across western Britain with a stronghold in the New Forest.
Always extremely rare in Cornwall and only extant at one site, Retire Common (SX06), in mid Cornwall.
Habitat & Ecology
Wet bare peaty areas of valley bog.
Lack of, or inappropriate management. The Retire Common site has been grazed by cattle since 2005 and it is hoped that the creation of open areas will be colonised by Marsh Clubmoss.
Retire Common is a SSSI.
