Range & Status
Nationally a common species generally distributed throughout the British Isles.
Probably under-recorded in Cornwall, but occurring in both vice counties, both on the coast and inland. Spooner found a nest under a stone high on Bodmin Moor at the Cheesewring.
Habitat & Ecology
Nests in tree stumps (including old Gorse Ulex spp. stumps and dead Elms Ulmus spp.), in peat on cliff tops and in semi-natural ancient woodland.
No known threats.
