Range & Status

Distributed throughout the British Isles, but commoner in the south of England.

Regional Distribution

Recently recorded from West Cornwall, but probably under-recorded. Last recorded from the Isles of Scilly in 1970.

Habitat & Ecology

Found on sea cliffs, under stones or tree stumps. The nests are founded by invading the nests of Lasius alienus and Black Garden Ant Lasius niger . Tolerant of full shade.
