Juncus compressus

Range & Status

Native. Eurosiberian Temperate plant. The majority of British sites are inland south and east of Cumbria. There are a few sites in Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

Regional Distribution

A single remaining site in the Hayle Estuary at Copperhouse (SW53), although it may persist in the catchment of the Fal (SW83).

Habitat & Ecology

A saltmarsh plant in Cornwall, but elsewhere it occurs in wet meadows and pastures, and brackish sites.

Threats

The proposed development of Hayle Harbour may well affect its future survival.

Conservation

The site is within a SSSI.
