Range & Status

Main populations now confined to heathland areas in west Cornwall, Dorset and the New Forest. There are also modern records from Sussex and Surrey. A national distribution map is provided by Foster (1983).

Regional Distribution

Modern records are confined to The Lizard heaths. There is one 19th century record from the Land' s End area.

Habitat & Ecology

Occurs in both temporary and permanent heathland pools, although most frequent in the former. Also recorded from slow running water on heathland.

Threats

Loss of heathland habitats.

Conservation

Most sites are either within The Lizard NNR or various SSSI, and some are under the
