Range & Status

Native/Archaeophyte. Mediterranean-Atlantic species. Found scattered in much of southern Britain and Ireland, but more especially in coastal areas.

Regional Distribution

Common in the Isles of Scilly, and in Cornwall found mainly around the coast.

Habitat & Ecology

A plant of cultivated ground, especially bulb-fields, roadsides and disturbed land near the coast. It is usually associated with sandy soils.

Threats

Changes in farming practices, especially the downturn in bulb production on Scilly. Also herbicide use both in agriculture and around roadsides.
