Dasypoda altercator

Range & Status

A widespread species in southern England and Wales north to Merionethshire and Norfolk. There are at least 12 post-1980 sites in Cornwall almost all of which are coastal dunes where it nests, often in large colonies, in hard, packed sand. Previously known as D. altercator the female of this species is most distinctive, with extremely long, golden pollen collecting hairs on the hind tibiae.
