Cyperus longus

Range & Status

Native. European Southern-temperate species. Scattered along the southern coast of Britain, west Wales and the Channel Islands. There are many introduced sites elsewhere in southern Britain.

Regional Distribution

Mainly scattered around the coast, west of a line from Padstow (SW97) to Dodman Point (SX03). It has been introduced to one site on the Isles of Scilly as well as a number in Cornwall.

Habitat & Ecology

Still surviving in a number of coastal localities, in marshes and cliff-flushes and a wet meadow.

Threats

A number of sites have been lost due to drainage and this remains the main threat.

Conservation

Few of the sites are protected.
