Range & Status

An Eurasian Southern-temperate species. Local in Cornwall, southern England, south Wales and the Channel Islands, casual elsewhere.

Regional Distribution

Probably native between Marazion (SW53) and Penzance (SW43) where it has been

known since 1688. At the other Cornish sites it is undoubtedly introduced. Recently rediscovered in Hayle (SW53) and Falmouth (SW83). It has been recorded on the Isles of Scilly from Tresco (SV81) and St. Mary' s (SV91).

Habitat & Ecology

It grows in rough, sandy ground by the sea, a sea front garden lawn, low coastal walls, sand-dunes and on sandy banks by a stream. It has also recently been found in a garden nursery and and industrial site on St. Mary' s.




Most sites are unprotected.
