Range & Status

A rare species in Britain and Ireland, with many records based on drift material. An unmistakable species which has been recorded attached to rock in shallow subtidal water. Specimens have been recorded from three Irish counties, Sussex, Devon, Cornwall and the Channel Islands. Its range extends south to the Mediterranean and Canary Isles. This may now be extinct in mainland Britain (Brodie, 2008 pers. comm.)
