Chirolophis ascanii

Habitat & Distribution

A boreal subtidal benthic species normally found in relatively shallow water (20-40m) on coarse gravel-shell often with much seaweed and very occasionally found on the shore near the extreme low-water mark. This species has a localised distribution around the British Isles, and never appears to be common anywhere in its range. It has been caught quite regularly and is common in prawn/shrimp trawls in the Falmouth estuary.
