Caryophyllia inornata

Range & Status

A small coral forming solitary cups less than 1cm across and found attached to vertical and overhanging rock surfaces in gullies and caves from about low water mark to 15m. A rare sub-littoral species, with recent records from North Devon (Lundy), Pembrokeshire (Skomer), south-west and north-east Ireland, Jura in SW Scotland and the Isles of Scilly. Caryophyllia inornata is protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) 1975.
