Callicera aurata

Range & Status

Recorded mainly from broadleaved woodland, and occasionally heathland, in central southern England, with a few scattered records as far north as Yorkshire. About 20 post-1980 sites.

Regional Distribution

Recorded at Penlee Battery in 2000.

Habitat & Ecology

Associated with old woodland. Larvae found in water-filled cavities in old trees, notably Birch Betula spp. Adults fly from June to September.

Threats

Removal of old or dead trees.

Conservation

Penlee Battery is a Cornwall Wildlife Trust Reserve, close to woodland owned by Mount Edgcumbe Country Park.
