Byssoloma subdiscordans

Range & Status

A very rare pantropical lichen known from very few sites in Britain. This shade-tolerant species has its headquarters on the heathland of the Lizard Peninsula. More recently Giavarini (Giavarini, 2002) has recorded it on Ling Calluna vulgaris stems in at least six metalliferous mining sites away from the Lizard Peninsula . It has also been found on Common Gorse Ulex europaeus . On the Lizard and the various metalliferous sites this species is prone to periodic heathland fires and on the metalliferous sites landscaping activities may also be problematical. Elsewhere known from west and central Ireland.
