Asplenium obovatum subsp. lanceolatum
Range & Status
Native. Mediterranean-Atlantic fern. Channel Islands, Devon, Cornwall, Wales and Ireland.
Frequent on some islands on the Isles of Scilly and frequent along stretches of the Cornish coast; it can also be found inland on old Cornish Hedges especially associated with farmsteads in the granite areas.
Habitat & Ecology
Mostly found near the coast in rock crevices, on Cornish Hedges, dry-stone walls and mortared walls, especially on granite hedges where there is little competition from other vegetation.
Hedge removal and poorly maintained hedges which become scrubbed over or dominated by rank vegetation, and cleaning of buildings and walls.
Most coastal sites are either owned by the NT or are SSSI, but most sites on inland hedges are not protected.
