Range & Status

Common where it occurs in the south of England and Wales but virtually absent from the rest of Britain.

Regional Distribution

The first record from Cornwall was from near Redruth in 1943 by R.S. Bagnall, but after that it was mainly recorded on the Lizard Peninsula, inland east of Mullion and on the coast at Halzephron, Coverack, Loe Bar, Church Cove and Dennis Head. Only recently has it been recorded for the first time elsewhere on the mainland, at Gwithian Green on the north coast.

Habitat & Ecology

In Cornwall recorded from areas of coastal grassland, the upper strand line of the sea shore, and old quarries.

The coastal sites are in areas designated for nature conservation.
